For me, it's a tie between 1983-1993 and 1962-1972. Both were half-decent times (Vietnam aside in the early 70s) to look back on, and both had a great automotive scene and great cars. In the 60s/70s, there were new muscle cars and British roadsters, and in the 80s/90s there was everything. Including insanely cheap muscle cars in addition to great, fun imports. Anyways, which automotive period/decade would you want to live in?

Now's not a bad time. The used market is full of great options. I don't care for new cars as much as a logical person would.

Word. All the old stuff is still around. And a lot of it is cheap now.

Any era with more wagons.
That aside, I'm good with right now.
What I'd rather have is more money to enjoy more cars.

2108 - 2115.
The cars would be so fast. And advanced. Of course, only if our lizard-people overlords allow it.

The 50s. Seeing all those tri-tone, chromed out cars all day every day would be a dream come true.

And 8-speed manuals!

1948-1970
Post war cars, the beginning of hot rodding, basically the beginning of everything that we love.

Ideally 1895-1940.

More like 18-speed! I could live out my F&F fantasies.

Don't you love technology?

I'd say now, too, but with the caveat that I'd like to have the unmitigated lack of restrictions that allowed the early years to be so fucking insane because, if you ask me, the current horsepower wars, combined with the insanity of say, the 30's or the 40's or the 50's even in some cases the 60's would be batshit fun.
"Here we have the new Lamborghini Murderator; seven hundred horse power, six wheel drive, and weighing just one thousand pounds, one cannot help but wonder if Lamborghini left the driver til last in the design process."
Also because Jeremy Clarkson would be the most crashingest person In The World.

Alive, or driving? Because I've been alive since '78, and I got my licence in '94. So, I was alive for your '83-'93 era, but not driving. I was able to see new C4 Corvettes and Supras and 911s and 993s and 300ZXs and E30s and the birth of the Viper and... but I only saw them in magazines, or mayyybe on the streets if I was lucky. I was lucky enough to have driven then-new cars like VR6 Corrados and Ur-S4s, though.

Haha! I thought of saying 18spd, but I don't want to be a truck driver for the damned lizard-people. The Fast and the Reptilian, though...

55 to 65. Long enough for customs to really come into theor own, and 283 327 powered duece coupes. Real ones.

Haha! I never thought I'd say this, but only to an extent. Technology has become a part of our comfort zone, which I believe is a major reason behind over-optimistic feelings about the present and future. Those are good for the evolution of society, but I like to think that nostalgia is as reasoned as excitement for the modern-day in many ways. That which is not tangible holds no value other than to the individual who understands/appreciates it, and while longing for a bygone day is often somewhat unreasoned, excitement about innovation can also just be a byproduct of dissatisfaction. I have no idea what I'm on about; maybe I'm just defending my abnormal fondness for the past. Anyways, I generally dislike tech in cars. Yeah, let's go with that.

In terms of design, absolutely.

This day and age. Right now, we are in a golden era of beautiful design, mad amounts of power, and the recession saw the hot hatch rise again. Hybrids are even properly good now, and with the P1, they're... well, they're incredible.
